Skills to help keep aggro/hate of monsters
Best Tank / Wanted in Parties
Catapult Pullers = Essential in Territory Wars
Great damage at endgame

Cons:

Low accuracy(due to low DEX in most builds. Can be solved at later levels with the skill Blood Bath, as well as +50% accuracy rings (Lv. 77?))
Low damage in the beginning/mid levels
Low Magic Defense
High repair cost
High potion/charm cost
Requires patience. Many give up before reaching lv 89+ due to high costs & other classes excelling more in terms of damage. (Barbarians rock at endgame though)

Advantages - very high damage : high intel spells + pet damage = a killing machine (with some luck, at 89+ you can pull out criticals at 50k+) - high survivability : let you pet take aggro before attacking, and you'll seldom die - very high healing power on your pet, making for easy solo HH runs Disadvantages - if your pet dies, you're in trouble (that will mostly happens with multiple aggro) - you may draw aggro to yourself while healing your pet.(that will mostly happens with multiple aggro) - not the best in PvP (physical damage chars can kill you fast)

Venomancers, as a caster class, can be customized to be able to wear any of the 3 main armor classes while still remaining a caster. 3 armor choices:1: Int build, you wear robes. Low phys def, Very high magic defense, high hp. Str = (Your level + 8) / 2 Int = (At least Your level x 3) Con = (Remaining points) Agi = 3 2: Light build, you wear light armor. Decent phys def, decent magic defense, low hp. Str = (Your level + 4) Agi = (Your level +4) Int = (Your level x 3) Con = 7+, depending on leftover points. This build doesn't include enough points to add into con, so unless you get a lot of armor with +hp, your hp will be quite low. 3: Heavy armor, high phys defense, high magic defense, low hp. Int: (Your level x3) Str: (Enough to wear heavy armor 3-4 grades lower than you - equates to (level - 10 or 20) * 2.5 +2) Agi: (Enough to wear heavy armor 3-4 grades lower than you) Con: 3 (Or however many points are left over.) Any of these builds are viable with a caster class, and all of them can wear robes as well. If you wish to go purely fox form, you can choose the heavy armor build or light armor build and scrap int to use a lower grade weapon so that you can either keep current with your heavy armor requirements, add to str for additional damage, or add to con for survivability. Honestly though, I would not recommend scrapping your magic tree in favor of fighting only in fox form, as limiting yourself to pure melee physical damage screws you against ranged classes. Of course, I'm not saying a heavy armor melee fox would be terrible. You would have insanely high pdef in fox form, your hp would be much higher than a heavy armor/robe mix, and your skills should be enough to at least prevent any pure melee character from killing you. Attack damage is weak unless you scrap your int in favor of str, in which case you'd have to use weapons that are a few grades lower than your current level as well as ruin your pet heal. Heavy armor foxes typically get 66 int for the beast class fb19 (id19?) level 22 gold magic sword, or 90 int for the fb29 level 30 starsealer. Personal recommendation: I play a light armor fox. Robes simply die far too quickly to anything physical. Heavy armor by itself suffers the same problem except to magical, unless you add a **** ton to con and scrap int. A popular choice now seems to be the robe / low grade heavy armor mix which affords mildly better defenses than light armor at equivalent stat costs, although of course the critical hit percent is lower. Light armor doesn't afford spectacular defenses,with damage reductions ranging from 45%-55%, with physical damage reduction topping off at about 65% in fox form. Having never played a robe/heavy armor mix, I cannot say for sure what the damage reductions are, but as the flat numbers are higher, we can assume it adds another 5% or so to each category.

Beijing Olympics Terrorists Video

WASHINGTON (AFP) - - A Muslim separatist group in China is a new video threat against the Olympic Games in Beijing, warning Muslims to keep their children away games, an American group that monitors extremists, said on Thursday.

TOKYO (Reuters Life!) - Japanese girls born last year can expect to live until they are 86 years old, which would make them the longest survivors in the world, a report from the country's health ministry showed.

Boys born in 2007 can expect to live to the age of 79.2, ranking third after Iceland and Hong Kong, the report said.

Japan's females have topped the world's longevity ranks for 23 years, something researchers have attributed to their healthy diet and tight social ties, among other reasons.

The report is the latest sign that Japan is aging quicker than any other country, with government data showing a tenth of the population aged 75 years or older.

The proportion of those 65 years or older is also seen doubling to 40 percent by mid-century.

"People are in different social environments and are influenced by various factors and eating habits, so it's hard to answer the question of why people live long," a ministry spokesman said.

"But we can say that the improvement of medical technologies helps," the spokesman added. Japan has improved treatments for the ageing population's three biggest killers -- cancer, heart disease and stroke.

Japan also has one of the world's lowest birth-rates, leaving the government with the challenge of how to fund its pension requirements, take care of its elderly and maintain productivity.

To mark the occasion, we talked with the producer Yasuhiro Takeda, Project Planner (Gainax and co-founder) Hiroyuki Yamaga, mechanical designer and animation director Yoho Yoshinari, and Deputy Director Masahiko Otsuka.

Anime News Network: As a See-Saw, Gurren Lagann looks backwards and a serious tone of the comedy - often several times in the same episode. How they balance the seriousness and language-in-cheek things you want to represent?

Takeda: In general, we decided what to do iban in each episode, then the rest is the screenwriter (KAZUKI Nakashima) to achieve a balance of what works and what does not.

Yamaga: We have worked together for so long that we do not have to have a discussion about where to have comedy and where we will have serious consequences. Only heard much of what evolves naturally and functioning smoothly.

ANN: Much of the style of art, especially in the early episodes, said [director Hiroyuki] Imaishi other management jobs, dead leaves, and I see that Mr. Yoshinari also worked on these two projects. What has been to maintain the specificity and fast-paced yet tongue-in-cheek style in a more rigorous program of television, in front of a movie?

Yoshinari: Artist, [animation] is very complex, but the truth is that during the design phase, is actually very easy to animate. When all the design is being created, we took into account the movement. Thus, even if it seems difficult, it is not difficult to animate.

ANN: Are there any episodes or themes that stand out in each of their minds as the most difficult as a facilitator and creator?

Yamaga: Episode 15 (laughs).

Yoshinari: Episode 15 was the most difficult because there are so many plans (cuts) compared to a typical episode. It is at least a year and half the value of episodes of fire because there were so many things that we need to be covered.

REDMOND, Wash. - Microsoft Corp. is scheduled to stop selling its Windows XP operating system to retailers and major computer makers Monday, despite protests from a slice of PC users who don't want to be forced into using XP's successor, Vista.

Once computers loaded with XP have been cleared from the inventory of PC makers such as Dell Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Co., consumers who can't live without the old operating system on their new machine will have to buy Vista Ultimate or Vista Business and then legally "downgrade" to XP.

Microsoft will still allow smaller mom-and-pop PC builder shops to buy XP for resale through the end of January. A version of XP will also remain available for ultra-low-cost PCs such as the Asus Eee PC.

A group of vocal computer users who rallied around a "Save XP" petition posted on the industry news site InfoWorld had been clamoring for Microsoft to keep selling XP until its next operating system, Windows 7, is available. The software maker has said it expects to release Windows 7 sometime in 2009.

Last week, Microsoft said it would provide full technical support for six-year-old Windows XP through 2009, and limited support through 2014.

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) - - A Malaysian city has banned Muslim women from wearing brightly coloured lipstick and noisy high-heeled shoes to work, the national news agency Bernama reported.

City officials in Kota Bharu, the capital of conservative northern Kelantan state -- which is run by the Islamic party PAS -- distributed a circular to local firms last month to outline the dress code, Bernama said late Monday.

The report said the circular stated that the directive, which targetted Muslim women working in food outlets and other business premises, was aimed at preventing incidents like rape and illicit sex.

It ordered women not to wear thick make-up including bright lipstick, or high-heeled shoes "that gave a tapping sound," although rubber-soled heels were permitted.

The directive said that the headscarf worn by many Muslim women in Malaysia should also cover the chest and not be made of transparent material, and that those who flouted the rules faced a fine of 500 ringgit (153 dollars).

Kelantan, which has been run by PAS since 1990, is the most conservative state in Malaysia. The country's population is dominated by Muslim Malays, alongside large ethnic Chinese and Indian minorities.

The state's rulers have in the past made headlines with laws that require separate queues for men and women in shops, and for imposing fines on skimpy clothing.

However, in recent years the party has begun introducing reforms designed to tone down its hardline reputation and woo young voters.

An official from the city's law enforcement department said there had been an "awareness campaign" encouraging Muslim women to conform with Islamic dress codes "with less make-up and more modesty, including wearing headscarves."

She told AFP that she had not seen the circular reported both by Bernama and a television network, adding there were no laws forbidding women from wearing heavy make-up or noisy footwear.

"It is a ridiculous piece of news," said the official, who declined to be identified.

The Martingale system

One of a roulette betting strategy typically used is called the Martingale system. This system can also be used on continuous bets of equivalent probability. Now, we’ll explain playing the roulette split bets using the Martingale System.

Doubling your bets with each red for the next spin is the basic essence of Martingale betting. Put $4 on red if you lose again. Stop this doubling of bets until you haven win. With regards to the above bets, if you had won on the third spin when you bet $4. Overall you won $4 and have lost $3 ($1 on the first spin and $2 on the second spin). In the end u still have a profit of $1.

The best part of the Martingale System is that you can still profit from it even after you have lost more than 50% of the time. With the example shown above, we had lost 2 out of 3 spins. We would have loss $1 instead of a $1 profit if we had made three $1 bets instead of using the Martingale System. This playing that is against the house's edge is calculated based on the repeats of the same amount of bets.

There is danger when you run into freak streaks rather than in the long run probability of the split bets. Over many spins a wheel can go black red black red all the way with neither color coming twice in a row. Hence, the Martingale system would work optimally.

But there is also a possibility that the first 50 spins are all black and the following 50 are all red. You will come out with a profit even with this freak show if you had an infinite bankroll. But the truth is that we do not have an infinite bankroll and at some time later will reach the casino’s betting cap. Both these factors are against the Martingale strategy. Over the long run, both spin histories will be in line with black/red coming up about 50/50. But in the Martingale System would have several problems if it is like the latter example. Neither of the examples shown is likely and there will be something in between.

The Martingale System is well-known and really works because the probability seeing a streak will decrease as the size of the streak increases. The probability of seeing black twice in a row is approximately 1 in 4 (0.5*0.5) and the probability of seeing black thrice in a row is approximately 1 in 8 (0.5*0.5*0.5) and the probability of seeing black six times in a row is approximately 1 in 64 (0.5*0.5*0.5*0.5*0.5*0.5). Hence, if red is on a streak and you had been betting on black, the odds of the streak of reds will keep falling with every spin.

As every seasoned gambler knows, there will surely be times when you are very unlucky and haven many bad runs when u can do nothing about it. You must still be cautious when using the Martingale system, do not be overconfident. Regardless, the Martingale system can greatly increase your chance of success when compared to just placing your bets randomly.

Firefox 3's Awesome Bar is not Awesome at All

I've been supporting Firefox since the beginning... But after FF3 is released, I'm really disappointed. I though everything was right, like faster loading speed, higher security. But NO! There is one thing among all the improvements that make it sucks, it is none other than the 'Revolutionary Smart Location Bar / Awesome Bar'.

So why does it sucks?

1.The location bar AUTOMATICALLY display all my bookmarks.

2. I can't clear the location bar unless I DELETE all my bookmarks.

3. Automatically displays website I have visited, even though i did no enter in the location bar.

What problems does it led to?

1. Do you know how many 'special' sites i have in my bookmarks? They have been hiding in my bookmarks folder all these years. But now they just popping out of my location bar!!! All my Dark Secrets will be revealed if my friends or family see how special those sites are in my location bar!

2. Hiding the 'special' sites from my location bar by sacrificing my collection of bookmarks? NO WAY! It would also be way troublesome if i saved all my bookmarks in notepad and delete it in my bookmarks folder.

3. Yes I've visited the some sites, but it doesn't mean I'll be going there again. So normally go to sites through Google rather than typing it in my location bar. But now, it saved that URL into my location bar even though I did not type it in! WTF is wrong??? All those 'sites' that I've visited keep POPPING out!

Disappointed, I decided to ask my friend for help before downgrading it back to version 2. After he heard this piece of shit news, he was HOT. The 'google' in him just snapped, and he found the solution.

Solution 1

By using an extension called 'Hide Unvisited 3'

It hide pages (bookmarks) that you haven't visited from showing in the AwesomeBar. This is for users that don't want to see any bookmarks showing up unless they've used the bookmark since deleting certain pages/sites or clearing the history.

- The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.
Search for the preference browser.urlbar.maxRichResults.
Double-click the browser.urlbar.maxRichResults preference and enter a value of -1.
From the menu at the top of the Firefox windowbar, select FileFirefox and then select the ExitQuit FirefoxQuit menu item.
Start Firefox again.

Bye bye Awesome Bar. Hope not to see you again.

Let’s start with the fundamental truth of the slot machine- there are no 100% sure win strategies. How could it exist? Frustrated by those dumb Claw Vending Machine (UFO Catcher) things you see at video game arcades? Here are a couple clips from Japanese TV in which experts explain how to win prizes!

Techniques shown in video clip #1:

Targeting an object close to the pit and using one side of the claw to push the object sideways instead of picking it up.
Other objects close to the pit can be pushed into each other to create a slide effect.
Stuffed animals that are too large to simply slide into the pit should be gripped by the claw at a specific point, which is often the neck.
Prizes that are inside boxes usually have an area on the box that is easily gripped by the claws. The figure shown in the video can only be properly picked up when it’s container is facing upright and the indentations on its side are targeted.

Technique shown in video clip #2:

Certain types of UFO Catcher claws open and close in a way that is well suited for gripping cardboard boxes. If you encounter a machine with a claw like the one shown in the video, you can use it to pick up boxes by targeting the intentations or gaps in the box. The technique can even be used to pick up two boxes at once!

Background
Not so long ago, a friend an I visited the arcade in Bugis and found out there was a new game I had never played before called stacker. It took several minutes to figure out how the game worked and at $1 per play I was in no rush to send in my wallet in to the stacker shredder, that was until I watched some other play and give me the general idea. It’s very simple, stack the boxes to the top, and win a prize.

So after watching two others toss nearly $20 in plays into the machine, I decided to try my hand at it. First time, I managed to get to the minor prize and then accidentally hit the accept minor prize button. Well I wasn’t going to settle with that… So I tried again, got to the top, and won myself an Nintendo DS Lite (Two $2 tries). Not a bad return. It was then that I realized that there are some Stacker tips you should notice next time you run into an arcade and are about to spend your entire allowance on a Stacker. I can’t guarantee that it will get you that prize, but it will certainly help if you want to learn how to win the Stacker Arcade Game.

Easy right? Yep.
Addicting? Ridiculously addictive.
Fair? Hardly, here are a few tips I learned

Stacker is rigged
Just like any other arcade game, Stacker is built so that the arcade makes money- Period. No arcade is going to offer Nintendo Wiis, PS3, Ipods or anything else of considerable value if it is going to cause them to lose money. So you will need to face the fact that until the machine has met its quota, it will not dispense any prize, and so the arcade makes money. So here is an example:

A stacker machine contains a Handphone, Ipod, PSP, digital camera all ranging in the $250-$300 range. Thanks to all those spammers their stacker business is gradually growing rapidly. Hence some machines have better and more attractive prizes like a PS3.
The difficulty can be set so that 1 in 20 to 1 in 800 people actually can win.
The arcade sets it to be $2 per play and on 1 in 300 plays wins.

So 300 plays after the machine is first configured or since the last winner, a prize will be dispensed assuming the person playing has decent motor skills and hand/eye coordination. By the time that person wins, the 1 winner (hopefully) walks away with a good ‘return on investment’ for his gamble and the arcade (depending on the prize chosen) has made anywhere from $300-$350.

So How do I Win if it’s rigged?
It’s pretty easy to realize if you have good hand/eye coordination: If you can make it to at least just below the minor prize bar without dropping any boxes, you have decent hand eye coordination and should be able to pull off winning when the machine is ready to give you a prize. From the Minor bar up is the rigged area, it’s very, VERY easy to realize that you’ve been jyped from your win because by that point you know when to hit it. Even though it gets progressively faster, you should have no problems keeping up.

The key here is to play in moderation. Visit every couple of days and play two or three times MAX.

Additionally, if you really want to go hardcore on stacker, I hear that stoopid games has a flash practice version of stacker…

Quick Tips:
If you’re the kind of person who likes listed tips, here you go, this is a summary of the above:
* Play in moderation - Stacker will not give a prize if it’s not ready to give a prize (2-3 times a day MAX)

* Take your time when playing- you have 30 seconds each time you hit that button to go to the next level. Don’t feel rushed to rush through the levels. Take a breather after each level and then in your calm state of Zen, attempt the next one.

* Try to Figure out your odds - Don’t be afraid to curiously ask the attendant when the last time someone actually won a prize was. Also missing items from the game case is another indicator of whether or not someone has recently won. Do an estimation of the price per play and the prize values and give a rough estimation of odds.

* Don’t suck - Even if stacker met its quota and is ready to give you that brand new PSP, you’re not going to get it if you can’t even get up to the minor prize bar. Sorry, but you still have to earn the prize.

On a final note keep in mind that I do not officially know anything about the inner workings of this game. I have based what I typed purely on what I have gained from experience. -What do you think about your class?
Its very interesting, and extremly fun, We are the back up class, who hunt between trees, and assasinate quietly. During party dungeons we stand at the back out of all the hubbajoobah but still maintain a good constant damage.

-How is he/she in pvp?
Because of our long range, we are pretty dominate of the pvp, untill of course a g.master bladder or warrior gets too close. We also have a poision skill, which deals +67 damage every second, good for when we are repositioning ourselves.

-How is he/she in pve?
The fastest killer of all normal enemies due to our quick attacks.

-How is the FA's compared to other classes?
Well, if we are fighting a boss, we do a constant amount of above average damage, we keep our distance thus not having to pot alot. We can also heal and have nice buffs.

-I've heard talk about FA's being overpowered atm?(any truth to that?)
People think we are overpowerd, but the truth is to do with the quick stable damage that we apply, i mean come on, archers aren't meant to take 10 seconds to fire a arrow.

-What is the job of the FA's in groups?
The job of a force archer in groups is to add magic attacks to other people, heal them when needed ( probably against bosses ) and to be yet again, the quick damage dealer of the party. When fighting bosses at lvl 85, and only doin 60 damage per hit, our posion skill is a very useful attack, as it doesn't take into the opponents armour.

To clarify, I replace Force impact with R.cut and Abyssal Crystal. IF I add Force impact after R.cut then the mobs will loose their stun.

Ok So I got some questions about FB skill and gear wise and what not.
I will give you my 2 cents on the subject in this post, I will update this as soon as I can and, I would like to explain right now, that my english spelling and grammar leaves much to be desired.

I will start with some comboes for you out there and then ill post gear suggestions
like for one a DONT is to go for 5% amp singel slotted boots over 100hp/will boots.

Duel combos:

Basics:
Dont go easy on anyone, dont asume that you can win easy even if he is in aramid and your in teragrace.

Start your combo as fast as possible. How to do this is not to try and get a red hit on your first skill.

Combo bar:
Yellow = poor hit
Orange = Good hit
Red = excellent hit

Usually people think its better to go for Red since it will dish more dmg and will increase the chance to crit. sure this might be true but, trust me you need to start as fast as possible.

Ok So you want to duel and you want to win right!
Say that you have a friend that you compete with you are same lvl, gear and so on.
Or maybe you are higher and have better gear and ranks. But you still loose.
Make a party so you can check your HP bars after each duel this helps, if he constantly survives with 20-100hp and DoT brings him to 0hp after you allready have lost then add a flashdraw or a higher dmg skill and skip some of the dot.

Cabal Force Blader Guide

My all-time favorite character, the Force Blader...

Overview:

FB is a an all-round balanced character with decent stats, good in both PvE (Player versus Environment/Monsters) and PvP (Player vs Player). No doubt that FBs have the best looking gears/equipments and skill animations + some Devil May Cry kind of style in them which is too cool to resist.

Also, due to FBs skill distribution which goes to all STR, INT and DEX, enable them to wear all type of equipments (Amourset, Battleset, Martialset) according to your needs (eg. armourset for more def, martial for more def rate, battleset for better looking and balance def+def rate)

However being a hybrid class, FB's stats distribution made them a weak melee class character compare to Warriors and Bladers because of their low base attack and base defense. But with a good combination of gears/equipments, FBs can really pawn hard.

Stats distribution:

As you can see DEX and STR both give the same att and def, but DEX gives more hit rate and def rate, hence most of FB stat points shall be invested on DEX. But, in order to be able to wear osmium armourset (more def) and blades/crystals(more attack), FBs should follow Force Shielders stats which is quite similar to FBs' (For STR and INT). However this does not apply to all FBs, it depends on players' style. As for all the extra stat points or the rest of the points after you put in str and int for your set, shall all go into DEX.

The Secrets of 369

Everyone in Singapore should have at least heard of the gang 369. Its just a name created by some gangsters who roamed the streets to identify themselves and try to make everyone scared of them. They even expanded and multiplied by recruiting school dropouts or some old Uncles who have tatoo all over the body just like Micheal Scoffield from Prison Break. Maybe they can recruit Christopher Lee soon.

Now, let me reveal to you the darkest secrets of the gang 369, and how they were formed.

Long before our times (or some of our times), there were 6 good buddies who played and grew up together. All of them had a common trait. They were all dropouts from school. They would always get together to play to eat and even to sleep together. Soon, they were so attached to each other that they have formed a sort of brotherly bond.

As soon as they hit their teenage years, they started roaming the streets. And they soon found out the dirty little business that were running in Geylang. They wanted to have a go at it, but they realized that the services there of cause, required a little fee. Broke they were, but they managed to find themselves a job serving Coffee at some old coffeeshops. After a month of hard work, they could finally get their hands on some cash. They got together and happily travelled to their destination, to accomplish a common goal that all of them had.

Upon reaching their desired destination, they quickly rushed to the nearest chick there was and got their hands on her. But as soon as they were ready to bring the chick to a nearby hotel, they were stopped by a group of gangsters which are more popularly known as "Ah bengs". This group of "Ah bengs" had named themselves AST, which is well knowned as Ang Shun Tong. But what others did not know was AST actually has another meaning. It means A Sex Triad. These group of people stopped the 6 great buddies from entering their territory as they were afraid that the buddies were trying to fight for their territory.

So they taught them a lesson and brutally beat the 6 buddies up. They extorted money from them, but only managed to get a mediocre sum from them. So they decided to throw them all into a Gay street and were forced to be engaged in sexual activity with them. After several nights, they managed to escape Hell and got far away from that place with tattered clothes on them. The 6 of them decided to take revenge and to grow stronger in order to fight back.

A few days after the escape, they still could not come up with an idea. But the 6 of them were growing hornier as time passes. This time they could hold no longer and had to perform sexual activities on each other to ease their urge. Miraculously, the favourite position that the 6 of them liked was the 69 position! After that intimate session, they all came up with an idea, just like AST. They decided to call themselves 369, which stood for Three 69 positions. Having created the foundation, they all now needed manpower to overcome the overwhelming power of AST. So, they spent nights recruiting anyone that suited their criteria, one who knows the 69 position. Very soon, they got up an army of gangsters and fought the AST to retrive their honour. They won gracefully and owned the whole of Geylang.

The society has now grown much smaller as there are lesser Gays in this country. And they soon resorted to recruit and school dropouts and old Uncles who sit in coffeeshop, drinking beer and doing nothing else.

So many people worry about how to start a
conversation. It makes them feel anxious and
afraid. Are you one of those people who keep your
fingers crossed that someone will come up to you
and speak because you'd never make the first move
in a conversation in a million years?

You can put all that behind you with you a few
easy steps. Starting a conversation isn't
difficult if you know how to do it.

Here's how to start a conversation with anyone:

1. Think what you want to get out of the
conversation first. Often this will just be small
talk on a social level, but it may also be
something like a date, a new job or to sort out
your finances. The latter examples are a little
trickier than the first, admittedly, but you can
do it!

2. Plan what you want to say. People often feel a
little easier in their minds if they have a
script worked out in advance. The point to
remember with a script, though - is to make it
just a few sentences to get you over the initial
trauma of opening your mouth and speaking that
first time in a new situation. Any more than that
and you'll sound false.

Okay, so you know what you want to get out of the
conversation and you have a little script worked
out for the first few sentences. Let's see how
that works in practice when it comes to the
conversation...

3. Relax! Breathe slowly and make yourself aware
of your breathing. Concentrate on just your
breathing for a few seconds and you should feel
some of the tension you're feeling begin to ease.

4. Smile! If you can stop gritting your teeth
long enough to smile, people will be more likely
to smile back.

5. Listen well. Listening always helps you in
conversations. It will show you when others have
finished speaking so you know where to come in
and if you listen well you'll also pick up clues
about what you could say.

6. When you feel comfortable, say 'Hello, my name
is ____' if the other people don't know you. That
will also give you some breathing space as the
other people will probably go on to introduce
themselves to you in return - if their Moms have
taught them good manners!

Try to catch peoples names and use them in the
conversation when talking to them. They will like
that and they will warm to you. The more they
warm to you, the nicer they'll be to you and the
better you'll feel.

Using peoples names is a simple trick but it
really works wonders in getting a conversation
off on the right foot.

7. You'll probably find it easier at first to
talk by making a comment on a more substantial
contribution that someone else has already made
in the conversation. Make your comment positive
or constructive, not negative or condemning.

Tell the other person you agree with them or add
an example which illustrates the point that they
have just made and supports it, etc. You'll soon
be accepted as part of the conversation and the
person you backed up will feel you are an ally
and will back you up in return. You've arrived!

8. You can disagree with the person in your
comment too - we're all entitled to our opinion!
But be aware that disagreeing is likely to focus
more attention on you. If you're ready for that -
great! If not, hang back a little from expressing
an opposing opinion.

9. Whatever comment you make - be polite. That
sounds so obvious, but you'd be amazed how many
people get carried away in the heat of a
conversation and snap at anyone who dares to
disagree with them.

10. Are you feeling braver yet? If you're
listening well to the conversation - and you
should be - there will be ideas that will come
into your mind. Just put one of those ideas out
there and see what people think of it.

That's it! You've done it! You've learned how to
start a conversation.
